LEADING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DIVE TRAINING

TECH 2 - 2 BOTTLE ENDORSEMENT (TECH GOLD)

The Technical Diver 2 - 2 Bottle Endorsement, also known as Tech 2 Gold, is designed to give experienced Tech 2 divers the ability to carry 2 decompression gases, EAN50 and 100% O2, in order to "clean up" after a day,  or multiple days, of multiple technical dives.  This can be very beneficial when diving in remote locations over several days for expeditions and exploration dives.

The addition of the second decompression gas does not allow the diver to extend the bottom time, or allow the diver to dive deeper, nor does it change the decompression profile or curve, or allow the diver to carry 3 bottles.  The Tech 2 diver is still limited to 2 bottles...either a stage and deco bottle or 2 deco bottles.

The purpose of the 2 bottle endorsement is merely to give the diver an added decompression advantage over a single decompression gas.

Why this class?

UTD Technical Diver trains the diver to safely plan and execute dives to 160' using a single decompression gas as well as a bottom stage, to allow the diver to perform multiple technical dives in a day, on a single set of double cylinders.  This also allows the diver to become comfortable with 2 bottles and a single decompression gas switch.

However, when performing multiple technical dives over multiple days, a second decompression gas can improve decompression efficiency.  Thus, the Tech 2 - 2 Bottle Endorsement was created.  However, with the addition of another decompression gas (100% O2) comes additional complexity and risk.  This 2 day course focuses on the procedures, risks and complexities of carrying and using 2 decompression gases.

This is a critical skills class.  Failures will be initiated by the instructor to facilitate problem identification and resolution, as well a thorough understanding of the risks and complexities of using 2 decompression gases.

Who is this class designed for?

In keeping with "teaching the way we actually dive", the Technical Diver 2 - 2 Bottle Endorsement is designed for Tech 2 divers with at least 25 dives at the Tech 2 level and would like the benefit of adding a second decompression to aid in decompression "clean up".

With the addition of the second decompression gas, the diver is now able to conduct multiple technical dives in a day, or series of days, on a single set of double cylinders and the use of a stage and single decompression bottle.  However, on the last dive of the day(s), the diver can now use a second decompression gas (100% O2) in place of the stage to improve decompression.

Though not a prerequisite, this class is also a great preparation for UTD Trimix 1.

Class Information

This class is structured around 1 - 2 days, involving a minimum of 4 - 6 hours of academics and 4 critical skills dives or 2 critical skills dives and 2 experience dives.  All designed to provide a working knowledge and understanding of the risks, procedures and complexities of utilizing 2 decompression bottles and gas switches.

Day 1 - Typically we begin with a 2 - 3 hour initial session consisting of dry runs (on land) of the skills and some practice before entering the water. Skills include proper deco bottle gas switching and stowing and ascent procedures.
Students then have 2 dives putting these skills and concepts into actual practice. We conclude with a video review and a few more hours of lecture.

Day 2 - The second day is much the same as the first, including dry runs on land and video review.

All UTD classes are video'd for educational review, as we believe this is invaluable for students to visually focus on their individual in-water skills, situational awareness, communication, and team diving. Learning to self evaluate is an important aspect of any class, and video is one of the most important tools we have for instruction.

You will be evaluated during the class to obtain the UTD "Technical 2 Gold" certification. This certification will allow you to dive within the Technical Diver limitation of 160'/48m while using 25/25, 21/35 or 18/45 for bottom gas and EAN50 and oxygen (2 deco bottles or 1 deco bottle and 1 stage)  for decompression and stage bottle use.  Our focus is the complete dedication to your diving skills, knowledge & in water practice.
