HOG QUICKSHOT MODIFICATION

Overview

The “Quickshot” is a nifty device manufactured by Edge Gear, providing a quick and handy means of shooting a larger smb.  The Quickshot is attached to the first stage of a stage or deco bottle.

However, in its standard form, the Quickshot requires two hands to operate.  Below are instructions for a simple mod that converts the Quickshot to single handed use.

It should be noted that the Quickshot delivers air to the smb at a much higher rate than what a diver would deliver orally.  For that reason, we typically only use the Quickshot when shooting a larger bag, deeper.  If you’re using it to shoot a smaller bag, be careful not to inflate the bag too much, as it may rupture when ascending to the surface.

It should also be noted that, like any other skill, time should be taken to practice with the use of the Quickshot, to avoid uncontrolled ascents initiated by changes in buoyancy due to the smb.

The modification only takes a few seconds and only requires a pair of small needle nose pliers.

Hardware & Tools

  • Quickshot
  • Small needle-nose pliers

Step 1

Using your thumb and index finger, pull the collar down, exposing the c-clip at the top of the Quickshot.  Insert a pair of small needle-nose pliers, closed, into the gap in the c-clip.  Open the pliers, spreading the gap in the c-clip.

Step 2

Remove the c-clip, spring, bearings and collar and discard.  These are not needed.

Step 3

Install the Quickshot onto an lp port in the first stage of your deco or stage regulator.

Your Quickshot is now ready for use.

Step 4

Practice!
