LEADING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DIVE TRAINING

NAUI Worldwide is the world's largest not for profit diver training organization in the world. Established in 1959 as a membership association and organized solely to support and promote Dive Safety Through Education, NAUI continues as a recognized leader in innovative education. NAUI Worldwide members offer a full range of training programs from Skin Diver through Instructor Course Director, with dozens of specialty courses including Nitrox and technical diving. Thousands of member instructors, dive businesses, resorts, and service centers are located in countries throughout the world.

NITROX / DECOMPRESSION BASICS

Nitrox (also called "enriched air" or EANx) has become the breathing medium of choice for divers.  Why?  When used correctly, it's much safer than air, allows for longer bottom times, and provides for shorter surface intervals than when using air.

Nitrogen and pressure are two of the greatest factors that limit our dives in recreational diving.  This class focuses on mitigating the limitations both these elements present us.  Discussion topics include on-gassing and off-gassing, bubble formation and management, tissues and tissue compartments, decompression models, theories and profile options.

We also discuss methods to help prevent DCS, the roles nitrox can play in your diving, how to safely and effectively use nitrox, and the many benefits nitrox offers.

Prerequisites: NAUI Scuba Diver or equivalent

ADVANCED DIVER

The Advanced Diver course is a challenging, enjoyable and rewarding course.  This course will take your skills and comfort in the water to the next level.

This course is taught as a progression and is catered to the diver.  We'll identify weaknesses and areas for improvement, discuss methods to improve, and practice those skills.  This course emphasizes buoyancy control, trim, kicks, team communication, gas planning and management and critical skills proficiency.

Once proficiency in the core skills is achieved and demonstrated, we'll discuss how to safely plan and execute a deep dive, using your own personal breathing rate, then we'll do a deep dive.

We'll also get to experience the Seattle nightlife....underwater!  Night diving is truly an amazing experience, but proper planning is vital to enjoying the dive.

Finally, we'll discuss the tools available to you to aid in navigation and navigation skills will be used, in varying difficulty, on all dives.

You'll walk away from this course with new skills, confidence and abilities.

Prerequisites: NAUI Scuba Diver or equivalent, 15 years of age

Required Dives: 6 - 3 personal/critical skills dives and night, deep, and navigation

ADVANCED DIVER - ELEMENTS

The Advanced Diver Elements is designed for divers who have taken their Advanced Class elsewhere and are looking for training and knowledge that was not presented in their class.

Our Advanced Class is unlike other Advanced classes and the the skills and knowledge we teach in this class, with very few exceptions, are not taught in other Advanced Courses.

This 1 evening + 1 full day workshop is designed to supplement the knowledge the diver gained in their prior Advanced Class.

This workshop consists of a 4 hour classroom discussion focusing on Balance/Buoyancy/Trim/Kicks, Gas Planning & Management, Intro to Decompression and Dive Planning.

This workshop also includes 2 personal skills dives focusing on the fundamental skills and critical skills discussed in the classroom the prior evening.

Prerequisites: Advanced Diver Certification

Dives: 2 skills dives

DPV 1

DPVs (Diver Propulsion Vehicles, also called scooters) are a lot of fun and serve as great vehicles for exploration, but DPVs also provide an element of risk due to the increased task loading, possibility of an out of control vehicle or stuck trigger, dead vehicle far from egress point (with possible boat traffic overhead) and inefficient gas planning.

This is a very extensive, 2 1/2 day course that covers:

  • Proper harness fit and adjustments
  • Scooter care, maintenance and servicing
  • Trimming, weighting and balancing the scooter
  • Improving diver efficiency and awareness while scootering
  • Fundamentals of scootering - starting/stopping, turning, speed matching, buoyancy & trim
  • Effective navigation
  • Critical skills - dead vehicle egress procedures, lost teammate search procedures, towing procedures
  • Emergency out of gas management - direct ascents, towing exits, side by side exits while sharing air with speed matching and touch contact
  • Gas Planning protocols for dives utilizing a vehicle as the primary means of propulsion
  • Crash control - collision, out of control vehicle, stuck trigger
  • Scooter team positioning, communication and effective light management

Scooters do require specific equipment in order to function properly and manage emergencies.  The required equipment for the DPV 1 course is:

  • Backplate and harness - Hogarthian style, with front and back crotch strap D-rings
  • Longhose regulator (5 - 7'.  7' preferred) with bungeed back up.
  • Canister light with Goodman handle

All dives will be video'd and reviewed/discussed in the classroom

Course parameters:  Minimum 2 students, max 3, max depth 60fsw, 4 dives

Prerequisites: 18 years of age, Scuba Diver certification, at least 25 dives
